Europe-Asia Case Study Center

About the Europe-Asia Case Study Center

Establishment

The Europe-Asia Case Study Center (former name: Swiss Chinese Case Study Center) was established in 2014 at the University of Zurich. It is financed by the University of Zurich with contributions from the EMBA program of UZH. Researchers at the Center conduct cross-cultural management research and develop business cases in the contexts of globalizing Asian economies in general, as well as EU-Asian cooperation in particular.

Background

The rise of the emerging Asian economies plays a significant role in the globalization. The economic ties between Asia and Europe has been strong than ever, and the number of European business people who work in Asian has been increasing rapidly. As a result, an emerging literature has documented the cross-cultural challenges of doing business in Asia.

Aims

The results of our research is published in case studies and aims to advance our understanding of both the increasing prominence of Asian firms in international business and how effective exchanges can be between Asia and Europe.

The Case Study Method

"A case is a vehicle for learning. (...) [It is] an account or description of a situation, or sequence of events, which raises issues or problems for analysis and solution."

(John Heath, 2015)

We base our case studies on actual decision situations within companies. By presenting real-life management dilemmas, we encourage students to explore and discuss possible solutions and draft various scenarios. The case study method connects the business world with academia, and helps students gain valuable skills they will need in the marketplace.

Vision/Mission

The mission of the Europe-Asia Case Study Center is to support and assist teaching and research practices that advance our knowledge of cross-cultural management in terms of strategy, marketing, leadership, human resource management, business operations, and other management fields in advanced economies. The publications of the Europe-Asia Case Study Center facilitate the exchange of ideas and experiences between students, scholars, management trainers, and business practitioners.
